Reporting Safe Migration and Trafficking - A Handbook for Media Practitioners

The handbook was published with the objective of equipping media practitioners with a strong understanding of concepts related to human trafficking and skills required for reader-friendly reporting. It guides the media practitioners in contributing to mitigate human trafficking through their coverage and content. The information in the handbook helps to cover trafficking issues more effectively in the specific context of countries like India, Bangladesh and Nepal.
 
A Report on National Workshop for Stakeholders on Safe Migration and Anti-Trafficking under the Project "Implementing Safe Migration to Prevent Trafficking in Women"

The workshop report highlights the rights based position of migration and trafficking. It stresses the role of media and stakeholders as highly important in addressing the issues of safe migration and anti-trafficking. The report also documents the individual success and failure-victimization story in migration narrated during the workshop. It puts forth future directives for different concerned sectors on the same issue. It provides overview of the dialogue and major issues raised during discussion between the stakeholders and participants.
 
Seminar Report on Independent Media & Non-Partisan Reporting under the Project "Towards Conflict Transformation Through a More Independent Media and Increased Citizen Participation"

The report was published with the purpose of sharing the outcome of the project "Towards Conflict Transformation Through a More Independent Media and Increased Citizen Participation". The report is about the content analysis of 44,341 news items of six media of Nepal three vernacular dailies and three TV Channels over a period of 2004-2008 on the ground of balanced and partisan reporting. It contains the indicators derived from the study, recommendations and findings that can help media to become free and independent while reporting to strengthen democracy in the country.
 
Training Manual on Independent and Balanced Reporting and Basic Media Management

The training manual is aimed at providing guidance to the trainers and media houses in balanced and non-partisan reporting. The major areas like Outlook on Conflict and Violence, Peace Journalism during Conflict, Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law, Independent Reporting and Management of Mass Media have been concretely/thoroughly explained by the subject experts.
 
Training Manual on cultural reporting for mass media

Published under the Sahaastitwa Project, the objective of this training manual is intended to contribute to increase in-depth cultural reporting. It aims to cater the production and publication/broadcasting needs of cultural reporting. Intended primarily for media practitioners from print, radio, TV and online, the manual is also a valuable reference for those who want to learn about 'culture and media'. Topics like reporting on cultural diversity and peace journalism, human rights and cultural rights, and cultural reporting for mass media is covered by this manual.
 
Training Manual for Development and Marketing of Cultural Products

This manual is particularly targeted for cultural producers. It provides guidance for becoming entrepreneur of a small business. Information on developing and marketing of products, collection of raw materials, production and technology, financial feasibility, networking, registering a business and writing business plan are the major features of this manual.
 
Booklet "Culture A Brief Introduction"

The aim of this booklet is to give a general overview of Nepalese culture like festivals, religious shrines, costumes and ornaments, folk dance and folk songs, folk music and instruments, folk literature, traditional cuisines. The booklet informs on minority, marginalized and indigenous groups. It highlights the need for inter-cultural harmony, cultural preservation and heritage of Nepal. The other sections cover the cultural rights and its status in Nepal, measures for preservation and promotion of culture, and introduction to culture of some districts of Nepal.
 
Brochure

The brochure is aimed to briefly introduce culture including economic aspect, measures of protection, minority and marginalized culture, cultural rights, inter-cultural harmony. Produced in seven different languages - Nepali, Rai, Limbu, Tamang, Maithali, Bhojpuri and Tharu; the brochure is useful in learning about culture and its importance.
 
Posters expressing cultural harmony

Posters were developed for the project "Sahaastitwaa Strengthening Local Cultures to Build Harmony in Nepal" as a promotional multilingual Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials numbering 20,000 Posters (in three different forms; 11,000 in Nepali and 1500 in each of the six other languages) to promote the message of inter-cultural harmony. The posters conveyed the message of "following own culture while respecting others" with picture of various cultural groups enjoying each other's company, practicing traditional occupation and religious practices; "importance of all cultures" with pictures and information depicting modes that bind diverse cultural groups together like cultural products, cultural fair and events, traditional instruments and "Harmony, Coexistence and Peace" where children from various cultural backgrounds are depicted coloring rainbow. .
 
Comic Book

A comic book, titled "Sabai ka Lagi Manav Adhikar" was produced with the objective to spread basic human rights messages especially to children, in an understandable and enjoyable manner.


Human Rights Education for Secondary School Students

The children's handbook was developed with the objective to educate secondary school children on human rights, child rights, women rights and international humanitarian law in understandable manner within a half day session. It is hoped that spreading of such knowledge to children will help to create a society that is more aware of their own rights and respects the rights of others.


Nepalma Bandha Shram Unmullan Ko Lagi Shiksha Tatha Wakalat Sanchar Samagri Chalfal Pustika (Discussion Guide)

This discussion guide is a supplementary material of a package containing informative materials developed (poster, audio cassettes, video documentary of case studies & booklet) during the course of implementing the ILO funded Education and Advocacy on Sustainable Elimination of Bonded Labor.

The guide is useful as a training tool / resource material for training institutes and other partners working in field of improving the situation of the former Kamaiyas (ex-bonded laborers).

The handbook on human rights was developed with the aim to facilitate dissemination of information on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), Convention of the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and International Humanitarian Law (IHL) at the district level.

Booklet on Useful Laws for Eradication of Bonded and Child Labor


The production of user-friendly resource kit summarizes relevant acts related to law on rights of bonded labor. These booklets have highlighted Nepali Legislation vis-a-vis Child labor, to ensure that people have in depth information regarding the pertinent laws.

Communication Support to Nepal's SFDP

This book deals with WIF's agriculture communication project which helped small farmers of Nepal to communicate with officials in the centre. The farmers utilized video to improve their farming skills.


Empowering Women to Communicate in Nepal

This book is about unschooled village women who learnt and utilized video technology to voice their problems to the officials at the centre. They also utilized basic video technology to improve their lives.


Development Communications: Nepal's Experience, 1989


The proceeding of the 2 day Seminar on "Development Communications: Nepal's Experience", is perhaps the first publication in Nepal dealing with development communication aspects of child survival, agriculture, forestry, women development, education and family planning.
